FOLLOWING months of practising lyrics and dance moves, Class Five at the Steiner Academy Frome joined many other schools to perform at the O2 Arena in London earlier this month.
Young Voices hosts the largest school choir concerts in the world, in the biggest arenas in the UK. They combine the power of choral singing with amazing performances from a wide range of musicians.
Class Five teacher Ann Gulbis said, “Thank you so much to all the children for their hard work and determination during all these weeks of practice, and although it was a lot of work, it was also a lot of fun and the concert made it all worthwhile.
“The Young Voices team looked after us really well and the whole event was incredibly well organised.”
The principal, Trevor Mepham said, “We are very pleased that the children have been involved in helping to raise a stunning £75,000 for the Nordoff Robbins charity.
“Memories like these will live with the children their whole lives.”
The children celebrated with a cake made by one of the parents the next day and were very happy to share their experiences. One child said, “It was brilliant dancing with Urban Strides and seeing all the celebrities.”
Another said, “It was one of the best experiences of my life…so far!”
And another said, “As in the words of one of our songs – ‘everything was awesome’. It feels amazing to know that we helped such a good cause.”
This year, Young Voices celebrates its 20 year anniversary and the concerts are raising money for the music charity, Nordoff Robbins who celebrate 40 years of music therapy.
The Young Voices choir on the Monday was 7,805 children strong and the children were joined on stage by Ben Haenow, Katie Melua, Lemar, The Beat Box Collective and Laura Wright, singing ‘The world in union.’
