THE Annual Parade and Act of Remembrance will again be observed in Frome, when the town will join the nation in falling silent for two minutes at 11am on Sunday 13th November.
Remembrance is deeply personal, and Jane Norris, Remembrance coordinator from the Frome branch of the Royal British Legion, encourages us all to take time to stop, reflect and remember.
Jane says, “In Frome at the War Memorial outside the Memorial Theatre, the service will begin at 10.55 am, when, after the Last Post and Reveille, poppy wreaths will be laid, and a short service will follow.
“This year will be particularly poignant with the passing of HM The Queen and accession of The King. The fortieth anniversary of the Falklands War and the current conflict in Europe will be in people’s mind, let alone the eightieth anniversary of Frome adopting HMS Thunderbolt in WW2.
“Remembering not just those who have taken up arms and never returned; those injured in body or mind, and whose battles have remained in silent suffering; those left behind, – family, friends and futures not lived.”
Anyone wishing to lay their own wreath is encouraged to contact Jane on 0777 6208531 or jane.norris9@gmail.com Villages and churches will also be holding services of Remembrance on Sunday 13th November – Wanstrow RBL Service of Remembrance at Wanstrow Church 6.30pm led by Jonathan Cheal with Malcolm Parr, and Nunney Remembrance Service at Nunney Church 10.30am
