A local trio of traditional story lovers are calling in tellers and listeners for a gathering this month.
Frome Storytelling Circle is a home for myth, wonder and the listening of traditional oral stories and folk tales. They will be hosting a storytelling event upstairs at The Three Swans pub on King Street on Thursday 27th November.
Organisers, Lara, Jed and Steph are inviting residents to bring a story to tell or just come and listen in a relaxed and welcoming space.
Lara said, “My childhood love of tales of fantasy, myth and jokes drew me towards exploring the power and shared pleasure of stories. I have used storytelling in my work with adults with learning disabilities and with young people with communication difficulties and enjoy sharing stories in a community setting. I’ve also had the pleasure of training with traditional storyteller Shonaleigh Cumbers.”
Jed said, “My connection to storytelling comes through years of working with myth and folklore for self-knowledge and I now bring those stories into community circles, including men’s work, nature-based groups, local creative projects and the mythic curriculum I’m developing for the Journeyman group in Frome.”
Steph said, “I have loved fairy tales and folktales since I was young and deeply appreciate the wisdom these teaching tales hold now I’m older. I was delighted when I moved to Frome and discovered a storytelling night organised by Lisa Kenwright at Rook Lane and I missed hearing stories when this local offering ended. Our first story circle back in summer was great – warm, welcoming and with so many great tellers.”
The gathering at The Three Swans will take place from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Recommended age 14 and over.
