DESPITE turmoil in the latter half of the season, Frome Town FC finish on a high as they end the season in their second highest finishing position; 13th.
This season saw the surprising resignation of manager, Josh Jeffries, as well as a few players including Jon Davies, who moved to join local team Melksham Town to complete the season. However spirits remain positive as they look forward to next season.
Gary Collinson, football and operations director told Frome Times, “It’s great that Frome finished in their second highest finishing position, despite the turmoil we have had during the year, so we are quite pleased with that.
“A highlight of the season has to be the way the team has played, the style the team has played with and to watch some great talent on the pitch.
“It was very important that we ended the season on a win to keep the momentum of the team, it was also important for the supporters as it shows promise for the next season.
“We have currently had 14 applications for the vacant managers position and we are currently talking to the previous management team, who still aren’t ruled out to take the spot. We should hope to have an appointed manager soon, so we can start to look at the direction of the team.
“Our current goal is to retain the existing squad, so won’t be looking at signing any new players as of yet, it all depends on the new manager too.
“We would like to thank the efforts of the team over the season, the supporters and also the financial support we receive. Hopefully next season we can encourage more people to come and watch the games. We will be looking at doing more off the pitch, around the town, to try to raise the profile of the club.
“We are also in the process of future development ideas for the club, with a lot of work going on behind the scenes that will hopefully come to light soon. We are in talks with people regarding the new planning applications for more houses in Frome, hoping that with more people comes more sports infrastructure, but this is on-going and look to have an update soon.”
Avid follower of Frome Town FC, Asa Wilkinson said, “Great bunch who, despite facing a difficult few weeks, fought until the end. Thanks lads for another great season full of ups and downs and exactly why we love non-league. Enjoy the summer and hope you’ll all be back next season.”
Following the win against Dunstable Town on Saturday 28th April, to finish the season, the team held their presentation evening, where awards were announced for the players.
The award for manager’s player of the year, supporters’ player of the year and players’ player of the year were all won by midfielder, Joe Raynes.
The directors’ shield, awarded to the player with the most ‘man of the match’ awards, was shared between Joe Raynes and Chas Hemmings.
Finally, the award for clubman of the year was awarded to Paul Carver, for his work as the stadium announcer and his social media posts.
