LOCAL organisations, Purple Elephant and Fair Frome, helped keep children entertained over the summer break with their unique activity sessions.
A spokesperson for the two organisations said, “Lots of families were delighted to have the opportunity to attend activity sessions and have packed lunches to take home over the six-week summer break.
“In an ongoing partnership between Purple Elephant and Fair Frome, supported by referring organisations, families were able to book on to a choice of activities running three days per week in three different locations in the town; The Mount area, Trinity area and St. John’s Road area.
“Activities were inclusive and included crafts with Creative Cats n Kittens, outdoor multisports with IG Sports and SASP, dance with Flamingo Chicks, Adaptive Martial Arts with AMA, cooking with Live, Learn, Cook, fun science with Science Boost, a reduce and reuse workshop with Greenpeace, and meeting exotic animals and reptiles.
“Sessions were two hours, delivered in a Covid-safe way to enable access for vulnerable families, with support workers and volunteers on hand, including young people.”
One parent said, “These sessions are a total lifeline, the six week holidays are so difficult trying to feed and entertain the children without spending money.”
And a carer said, “We are so grateful to be able to come to these sessions knowing they are well organised so we feel safe.”
These sessions were made possible thanks to funding from Frome Rotary, Frome Town Rotary, government HAF funding, Somerset Community Foundation and The County Disabilities Team.
A spokesperson for the two organisations continues, “We also put on a lovely community event at the start of the holidays at Tower View park on the Mount, thanks to some funding from Asda. Despite the weather families enjoyed delicious barbecue food and salads from Events Horizon, giant outdoor games, crafts, and a magic show and balloons with Dave Hickory.”
