The brand new ‘Frome Town Table Tennis Club’ is up and running and is proving to be quite a success with its new members.
The club organisers, Josephine Boyd and Phil Salt, who both live in Frome, have been amazed at the initial response from players, resulting in full membership being achieved within the first month.
They say, “The club is based at the Frome Youth and Community Centre, Vallis Road, Frome, BA11 3EF. The club is for adults (18+) only and runs for 2 hours every week on a Thursday night from 8pm until 10pm. A waiting list now exists for anyone interested in playing on a Thursday night. The club is designed so that members can play in an enjoyable, sociable environment and would be ideal for members to both learn and develop their table tennis skills.
“The club is investing heavily, having procured a brand new tournament standard table and has had a further table donated by one of its members, bringing the total number of tables available to five. New nets and balls have also been purchased and we are currently designing new club t-shirts. In fact things are going so well, the club is now planning to run the club on Sunday mornings (10am until 12am) commencing in September. Anybody interested in joining the club and playing on a Sunday should contact either Josephine on 07500 955038 or Phil on 07795 313222. Alternatively email frometabletennis@gmail.com.
“There is limited space due to the number of tables available, so membership will be on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis and a waiting list will be maintained for those that wish to play but are over the prescribed numbers. The cost for the first ‘taster session’ will be charged at £4/session, thereafter membership will be by subscription set at just £10/month.
“The club exists for the residents of Frome and surrounding villages and is run by the members for the members. Many of the members have not played table tennis since they were young and are relishing the opportunity to refresh their skills whilst keeping active and making new friends.”
