The sum of £11,137.72p has been raised for Dorothy House Hospice by Cassie King, hair loss consultant and owner of The Wig Sanctuary, by waiving consultation fees.
Cassie says, “It’s our 10th anniversary, and I’d would like to thank all the clients who’ve made this sum possible, by their generous donations. In the UK alone, 60% of women experience some form of hair loss, and it can be devastating, whatever the cause.
After seeing friends and loved ones affected by cancer, I wanted to do something to help promote a positive self image during what can be a very stressful time. That’s when The Wig Sanctuary came to be, and women with varying hair loss situations have been helped. I’m a master craftsman hairdresser, so that wealth of experience proves very helpful in personalising the wigs – or ‘new hair’ as I prefer to call it.
“It’s been 10 years now, and during that time, people have come from Cornwall to Coventry. The feedback received from clients is such an encouragement, in that they leave feeling uplifted, more confident, and actually having enjoyed the whole process, despite initially dreading it! Some have even said that their ‘new hair’ has been life changing for them! You may imagine how utterly fulfilling that is for me, I feel so very blessed.
“Dorothy House do the most wonderful work, and it’s a joy and privilege to support them.”
Steph Cox, community fundraiser for Dorothy House, said donations are very important. “This gift means a great deal to patients and families that we look after every year, and makes a difference to people’s lives,” she said.
“Both patients and families benefit from nursing, counselling, complimentary therapies, group activities and much more. At Dorothy House, our aim is to provide the best possible level of care for all our patients, just where they want it most.
“The hospice, set in very beautiful and peaceful grounds, offers a cost-free, relaxed and informal drop-in and sign-posting service for anyone affected personally or indirectly by a life-limiting diagnosis.
“While many of our core services are based at the hospice in Winsley, the majority of our work is provided out in the community, much of it in patients’ homes. All our services are provided free of charge and are only possible with the generous support of the community.”
