Mutual Aid Frome held a very successful screening of The Bentley Effect at Frome Town hall on 1st March.
The group says, “70 people came to be inspired and uplifted by this very powerful film. It told the story of a community in the beautiful Northern Rivers area of New South Wales, Australia rising up to prevent their environment being ravaged by fracking. The film shows what can happen when diverse communities come together and unite to protect the environment which they love.”
Annabelle Macfadyen said, “Fracking not only produces a huge amount of carbon dioxide, it also poisons land and water – some communities in Australia and America have been left without clean drinking water as a result. Fracking poses a huge risk to human health and is just not needed. The fight against fracking in the UK is continuing in Lancashire where they have already been experiencing earthquakes as a result of initial drilling.”
At the event, vegan cakes were provided by the Scrummy Vegan Cake Cooperative and the screening raised almost £300 in donations for anti-fracking camps in the UK and the makers of the film.
The film is now available at SHARE: Frome on the Bridge to borrow for £1. To get involved in the fight against fracking or to find out more, contact: Frome.anti frack@gmail.com
