The Community Fridge is back up and running at the Loop de Loop building in the Cattle Market Car Park.
This new space means more food can be saved from waste and shared with the community, making it easier than ever for everyone to get involved.
The Community Fridge opened in 2016 at the Loop de Loop building but then closed around the time of the Covid pandemic. It was then relocated to Frome Town Council to be closer to the Fair Frome site at that time.
“This reopening opens up greater access and a lot more capacity,” explained a member of the fridge team, Samantha Evans.
“The team at Edventure rolled up their sleeves to get the space at the Loop de Loop building sparkling, with a big hand from Darren at Walton and Stratford Property Services, who kindly ended up helping with much more than the plastering job he had come for.”
Funding for this new chapter of the Community Fridge was provided by Frome Town Council, Edventure and Victoria Park Community Café. “Their joint support shows just how important it is to keep good food out of the bin and within reach for everyone in the community,” says Samantha.
Terri Pitts, who has been coordinating the Community Fridge in Frome for over eight years, said she is thrilled to see the fridge back in action. “This fridge is here for everyone to donate food and to help yourself,” says Terri. “Let’s keep up the great work of reducing food waste, so please come and use it!”
The Community Fridge welcomes everyone to donate spare food or pick up what they need. If you would like to volunteer or if you are a local business interested in joining the fridge’s food pickup network, please get in touch at fridge@edventurefrome.org.
