Two businesses in Frome recently worked to help the Frome Men’s Shed mend a table tennis table and a football table for the YMCA-run youth club at Frome Youth & Community Centre on Vallis Road.
The social media and marketing company, TBT Marketing based at Commerce Park in Frome contacted the Frome Shed to say they were clearing out their storage room, and could they help find a good home for their no-longer needed football table.
Frome Shed explained, “We said we could; we collected it from TBT and delivered it to the Frome Youth & Community Centre – the YMCA was going to see which youth clubs in Mendip may want it, but it was decided to keep it in Frome.
“When we delivered the table, they explained that they had a wonderful table tennis table, that had been broken and could we fix it. We did – not “good as new” but well enough for it to be used.
“We returned last week to repair and assemble the football table, but there were some nuts and bolts missing. This is where Peter Abbott comes in – The Shedders drove across to Keyford Court on the Marston Trading Estate, where Keith Hardy from Peter Abbotts very kindly donated the nuts and bolts needed to assemble the football table.”
The CEO of YMCA Mendip was at the Frome Youth & Community Centre to see the football table assembled. She said, “We’re very grateful to TBT Marketing, The Frome Shed, and Peter Abbott Co West for their collaboration in helping us improve the facilities for the youth in Frome.”
Shedder Bern Sawle said, “It’s been really busy down the Shed lately – last week I was mending a raised bed for an older Frome resident, this week fixing the football table for the youth club. The variety is great, and it’s brilliant we are able to help people”
Peter Saunders, chairman at TBT Marketing said, “We are delighted to see it has been of use and gone to a good home.”
