Frome Ukulele Club are the winners of the inaugural “Ukulele Trophy” held in Devizes last weekend.
The day was part festival and part competition with ukulele groups from far and wide playing alongside each other before battle commenced. Playing three songs each, the judges couldn’t split the two front runners – The Frukes and the group from Chippenham. A fourth song was performed and, with the judges still undecided, the two groups left the room while the audience voted.
Praised for their technical merit but especially their enthusiasm and performance value, The Frukes won the day and carried off the magnificent trophy.
As their popularity spreads further afield, The Frukes are playing at The American Museum in Bath on the 17th June, followed by The National Trust Festival in Cheddar on the 24th before returning to Frome to play at Frome’s Food Fest on 7th July and then The Cornerhouse on Thursday 19th July.
