Year 9 Frome College students have spent this term perfecting their baking skills.
They have cooked a variety of products, and the focus of the lessons has been the working properties of their ingredients.
Students have had to identify the ingredient, and problem solve to work out why it has been used to create a perfect baked product. They have also developed an understanding of the methods needed to make the products and test for cooking.
The term culminated in a ‘Great Frome Bake Off’ competition where students could apply their knowledge and demonstrate their skills.
“The standards were very high and the quality of the final products exceptional,” said Jane Davis from the College. “The competition was judged by Mrs Hutton, a keen cake maker and decorator.”
The winners in the 9D competition were: 1st Erena Sansum with a 3 tiered Victoria sponge. 2nd Grace Lloyd with her decorated Fairy cakes. 3rd Shannon McGuiness- Roskrudge with a sponge with a ‘Summer Fun’ beach theme.
The Winners in the 9A competition were: 1st Mikaela Forrester with her marble cake. 2nd Holly McPhee-Clarke for her 3 tiered chocolate cake with piped cream and strawberries. 3rd Emily Eacott for her very creative cascading Malteser.
