THE Sunday Gathering is a new monthly free community event that will take place every second Sunday of the month at the Bennett Centre, starting Sunday 8th January at 2pm.
This event is family friendly and will be open to all and organisers say the afternoon will include storytelling, live music, movement, ritual, singing, contemplation, playfulness, friendship, kindness and tea and cake.
One of the organisers is Ed Green, previously of local band Captain Cactus, who put on the ‘Magic of the Universe’ show at last year’s Frome Festival, and was part of the team that ran the Sofar Sounds music nights around town.
Speaking about this new Sunday Gathering event, Ed says “I keep hearing how people want to gather in some way with ritual in today’s modern secular society – this is an attempt to fill that need. It will be fun, playful but with space for spirituality and contemplation. Each month will have a seasonal theme connected to the natural world. A live house band will provide music for singing and movement, and there’s storytelling too. Tell your friends, bring your family. This is the new Sunday afternoon! And it’s free!”
Also leading the Sunday Gathering team is Martha Oster from The Good Heart and Frome Kindness Festival.
Martha added, “Humans have been gathering together for ritual, contemplation and wonderment since the beginning of time. Sunday Gathering continues this tradition; offering a space that will seem familiar, but will also offer something completely new. Expect ponderings on what it means to be human, how we can all be more kind and how we might find meaning or purpose in the world. All wrapped up in playfulness, tea and community. I cannot wait!”
