A LITTLE later than usual, on 19th July, The Woodlanders met at East Woodlands Village Hall to start rehearsing for their 2021 show which will be on stage from 5 to 9 October.
“We are so happy to be back and intend to put on a show designed to be a much needed tonic and bring some fun back into our lives after the rigours of the last eighteen months or so,” said chairman, Sandra Gaisford.
“We are really pleased to have a new young member on stage this year and, as always, have some great singers and comedy entertainers. Our purpose is not just to entertain but to raise as much money for local charities as we can.”
On that same day The Woodlanders presented cheques to four organisations from the proceeds of their last show in 2019.
The group reports, “Lenka Grimes, co-ordinator for Fair Frome was presented with a cheque by Sandra Gaisford. Lenka explained how Fair Frome run a food bank and a furniture bank to assist those on low incomes or benefits who have been referred to them. They also run Food at Five – a takeaway hot, nutritious meal service on three days a week.
“Ray Wilkins, representing Mendip Community Transport, received a cheque from Trudi Whittock, cast member and secretary of The Woodlanders. Ray thanked The Woodlanders for their continued support over the last few years which had helped Frome Community Transport to continue to support the community.
“Woodlander’s Treasurer and cast member, Ann Hart, presented a cheque for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) to her son Darran Underhill and Maria Mead whose daughter, Lauren Rose, tragically died of SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome) and who are now fundraisers for the charity.
“Chairman of East Woodlands Village Hall and member of the Woodlanders cast, Christine Carpenter, received a cheque from Sandra Gaisford. The Hall has been the home of The Woodlanders since 1977, when the choir of St Katherine’s church first produced a show to raise funds for its restoration. “Christine thanked The Woodlanders for their support over the years and explained the funds will go towards the goal of buying the Hall for the community to ensure there is a thriving hub for future generations.
