To mark ‘Young Carers Awareness Day,’ which this year took place on the 25th January, The Zone young carers group enjoyed a pamper session last month.
As part of the celebration some of the children designed T-shirts which could end up being worn at the Young Carers Festival 2018. The winning design will be worn by over 1,800 young carers at the weekend event in Hampshire, this summer.
Jane, club leader said, “We are beginning to think about whether we may be able to take our Zone members to the festival which takes place at the end of June. This would be the charity’s first residential outing, which would be very exciting. The Zone is reliant on funding, as well as families’ fundraising activities, If anyone feels like they could support The Zone Young Carers and our plans for 2018, we would love to hear from you.”
The Zone, which is run by The Pod Charity in Frome, meets at the Park Road support centre, every other Wednesday from 6-8pm and for occasional holiday activities. The young people that attend are aged between 10-18 years, and many, but not all of the children that go to the club, have a sibling with a disability.
If you know someone who may benefit from joining The Zone or if you think you would like to get involved, please email info@thepod charity.org.uk or contact Jane on 07736 470328.
