There are three new exhibitions for visitors to enjoy at Frome Heritage Museum in the coming months.
Jennie O’Kane, museum volunteer said, “The main exhibition, ‘The Last Tree Dreaming’, is about the beauty of Selwood Forest and how we can see the remains of this magnificent woodland in many areas close to Frome; as we see every spring in local woodland when beautiful bluebells are in bloom.
“The museum is displaying photographs by Julian Hight of our local trees and woods and the exhibition shows the theme of a fallen oak from the Stourhead Estate that has been the focus for local students in their creative writing and artwork. This exciting exhibition remains on show until the end of August.
“The trunk of this oak is at Frome College for students to design and work on it under the guidance of professional sculptors, Barry Cooper and Anthony Rogers. Eventually this mighty oak will be upright once more and permanently on show at the college.
“There are two smaller displays at the museum; in one of the new tower units is a celebration of the Queen’s Official 90th Birthday which shows her life through the 20th and 21st centuries using mementos which also depict her place in history, with documents and artefacts showing her ancestors and descendants.
“The other unit is Simon Carpenter’s ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ and during June our temporary exhibitor, James Bartholomew, showed his collections of minerals, fossils and, of course, other curiosities! These will be replaced by another collector’s precious artefacts for July.
“People who have made their own interesting collections are always welcome to contact the Frome Heritage Museum if they would like to have the opportunity to exhibit them in the future.”
