THREE Frome boxers have been praised by their coach after they all won their amateur bouts last month.
Ben Newland (17), Spencer Pearn (13), and Frankie Milsom (19) from the Frome Amateur Boxing Club (Frome ABC) all travelled to Portsmouth in January to compete at the Paulsgrove and Ted Harris Amateur Boxing Club, with all three winning their bouts. Spencer also recently won another bout in Caldicot last weekend.
The boys’ coach Rebecca Cowper says she is “really proud” of them following their wins.
“They’ve all been boxing for a while now and they have taken great steps since first training with us,” explained Rebecca. “Following the boxing club closing down before Covid, we started a new one which was affiliated by England Boxing in March of last year and things have been progressing well since then. Things have now geared up and we’ve had people competing for the first time in a while which we are so happy about; the club is really thriving.
“This is a massive result for the boys and I have to praise them all as their motivation was second to none. It must have been so difficult for them to keep the eye on the ball when we weren’t able to go out and compete, but now they’ve gone out and smashed it. I’m really proud of them – all the boxers also won their bouts at Frome ABC’s home show in November.
“I have to thank Ryan Wheeler as he has helped us get affiliated with England Boxing which has allowed us to take part in the England Boxing shows; he’s been integral in bringing this club back to Frome. Something new to the club is that we are hosting women’s boxing sessions on Tuesday evenings – this has been really well attended so far, so please do get in contact if this is of interest.”
The club’s next home show is taking place on Sunday 24th March. For more information search Frome Amateur Boxing Club on Facebook or call 07807 615281.
