Frome Birth Talk, a local group of birth professionals and mothers, is holding a ‘Time for You’ pamper day for women on Saturday 4th February at Frome Birth Centre.
The event is raising funds to reinstate the free counselling service for pregnant and postnatal women, which was recently discontinued.
Tillie Mabbutt, who runs the Frome branch of PANDAS Foundation UK, which offers peer support to women suffering from pre and postnatal mental illness, is one of the organisers. She says, “It’s very common for women to experience low mood and anxiety during pregnancy and the postnatal period. In some cases, it can develop into serious mental illness. The midwives in Frome have been able to offer free short-term dynamic counselling to women they feel are in need, but the funding was cut recently.
“The fact that the service is free means that it’s available to all women regardless of their financial circumstances. The service has amazing feedback from the people who’ve used it, and a timely referral could save women and their families from a lot of unnecessary suffering.
“The ‘Time for You’ event will showcase lots of therapies and activities that assist with relaxation and encourage women to remember that looking after themselves is just as important as looking after the baby.”
The ‘Time for You’ event is on Saturday 4th February at Frome Birth Centre. Tickets are £10 for each three-hour session (morning or afternoon) and include an introduction to mindfulness, a yoga or baby massage class, drinks and homemade cakes. Taster therapies are also available for £5 each including massage, manicures and reflexology.
A raffle offering prizes including Frugi baby clothing, massage treatments, family photo shoots, music and baby signing classes and home delivery of afternoon tea on vintage china will be drawn on the day.
Tickets are on sale at Frome Birth Centre. Call 01373 454763 to reserve your ticket or from PANDAS Foundation, email tillie.mabbutt1@gmail.com
