SUBMISSIONS are open for Frome’s International Climate Film festival and people are encouraged to send in films, music or visual work, themed on climate change, by Saturday 1st April.
Now in its second year, Frome’s International Climate Film festival will take place on Saturday 6th May at the George Hotel in the town centre from 10am to 4pm; it is a one-day event, showcasing work from people passionate about supporting the climate and environment.
Submissions can be sent in for the following categories: under 16 years; 16–60-year-olds; Over 60s’ Under five-minute film (which can include tick-tock videos); Female director; LGBTQ; Most inspirational; Net zero (lowest carbon footprint).
Director and creator of the event, James Godman said, “This is now the second year of running the event, after a successful first year last May. I started this because with things like the climate emergency and climate challenges, you can’t change it with one day and one event, can you? The aim of the festival is to work together, to connect, share and inspire change.
“Last year, we held the event in Frome Town Hall and the council was incredibly supportive. This year, we want to try and bring the festival much closer to the centre of town and will be holding it in the Granary at the back of the George Hotel. The films will be shown there with workshops and knowledge-sharing happening in the ballroom. There are also ideas for outside events too.
“This is a free event and we don’t make any money from it. If we do, the money raised will go back into supporting the directors and musicians in their climate-based work.
“If anyone wants to sponsor the event, the best way to do this would be to sponsor the awards.”
