Frome Town Council are in full seasonal swing with the planning of the annual Christmas Lights Switch On, taking place on Friday 25th November from 5-7pm.
The evening will see the town centre transform into a sparkling festive celebration with performances from local bands, culminating in the spectacular lantern parade, which will delight with a gingerbread town theme. As well as the musical entertainment, Father Christmas will be joining Mayor of Frome, Cllr Sara Butler, on the balcony of The George Hotel to welcome Christmas to Frome’s streets.
There will also be fun in store for families as a children’s carousel ride will be along Scott Road. Frome Town Council are also working with local charity, WHY, to provide a Santa’s Grotto on the night.
Mayor Sara Butler said, “I hope that a free event for all the family will help spread some festive cheer and bring the town together to celebrate our community. This year we’ll be raising funds for the Big Christmas Get Together, which for over a decade has provided a Christmas meal and company to residents across the town.”
Alongside the entertainment, there will be festive eats and drinks from Penleigh Butchers who’ll be offering moreish sausage rolls including a vegan version, Flow on the Go who are bringing their special celebratory touch with mulled wine, The Crumpeteers and their renowned sweet and savoury treats, as well as local charity Active & In Touch with their delicious cakes and warming drinks.
Other local eateries are welcoming the festive cheer and extending their opening hours while offering Christmas delights for the event include Hamper, Home.in. Frome, Lo Rapitenc and Palmer Street Bottle.
There is still time to take part in the free lantern workshops from Frome Lanterns, taking place throughout November in the lead up to the big event, just pop into the Town Hall or Discover Frome at the Black Swan Arts to purchase your lantern making kit.

Road closures will be in place from 4pm so anyone planning to attend is asked to walk to the event if possible. The Cattle Market, Merchants Barton and Vicarage Street car parks will remain open to enable people to park until they are full.
The Cork Street taxi rank will be relocated to Saxonvale, alongside the pedestrian entrance to the Kingsway, and buses and coaches will be diverted.

A month-long programme of activities and events is set to take place across the town in May as part of an initiative encouraging residents to connect with themselves, each other and local places.
The scheme, Frome Connects, will run throughout the month and includes a mix of social activities, creative events and informal meet-ups in community spaces.
Highlights include the return of Dress Up Fridays, which began during lockdown and invites people to wear formal clothing or fancy dress and turn the town into their catwalk each Friday.
Set-piece moments include a Kate Bush-themed flashmob (Running Up That [Catherine] Hill) on 30th May, followed by a bell peal at St John’s Church where the bells will play Running Up That Hill.
There will also be a whole-town drone photo on Friday 30th May, with everyone encouraged to ‘look up’ at around 12.30pm.
