Frome Toy Library is opening its membership sign-up option as a special seasonal gift for the first time this December.
In a move towards creative new ways to keep the non-profit organisation going, Purple Elephant Productions, the organisers of the Frome Toy Library, are now offering everyone the opportunity to gift Toy Library membership as a unique Christmas present for young families and friends in the area.
The Frome Toy Library, as well as holding twice-weekly play sessions, offers the chance to borrow a large selection of good quality educational toys and games all year round.
Director Sue Willis explains, “Our members delight in having the opportunity to borrow different toys, or re-borrow old favourites, to give their children so much choice. Even the most creative child is delighted to have a ‘new’ toy, so this gives them the chance to swap play-things all year long, whilst parents don’t have to keep reaching for their wallets or search for storage space. It is a win-win for everyone.”
The Toy Library emphasises the importance of early play between adults and children. The stay-and-play sessions actively encourage adults to have fun with their children, rather than leaving the kids to play on their own. This helps to reinforce the bonds between child and parent/carer and allows adults to chat to each other, to discuss early parenting issues and make social connections, helping to relieve social isolation. The Toy Library’s experienced key worker is on hand to give support and advice to parents and carers.
Sue continued, “In these days of environmental awareness it can be a particular challenge for families to balance low-plastic use with tight budgets and the need to keep children entertained, so we are very pleased to offer membership as a Christmas gift this year, along with a limited copy of this gorgeous Christmas panda postcard, designed especially for us by one of our young Toy Library members!”
The Frome Toy Library charges just £20 for an annual membership (£10 for those on benefits) which includes full lending service, plus £1 per family at play sessions. In order to maintain its service to the community throughout 2020, the Toy Library is looking to increase its membership now. Prospective members can see a selection of some of the 47 take-home play-sacks on the Toy Library website or on its Face Book page.
Currently sponsored by Storagebase and Lettings-R-Us, the organisers are most keen to hear from other local businesses who would be interested in sponsoring and supporting this sustainable and growing community service.
If you would like to purchase membership as a seasonal surprise gift for a family, then you can find details on the website www.fromechildrensfestival .org/toy-library or get in touch via info@fromechildrens festival.org to be sure of a very warm welcome.
