Local author Julian Hight will be presenting a free illustrated talk during the Frome Festival at Hunting Raven Books.
The talk; ‘World Tree Story and Selwood Forest’ follows Julian’s travels over five years to 39 countries around the globe to photograph and document some of the oldest, largest trees on the planet.
Told through history, legend and literature, comparing archive photographs and engravings with stunning contemporary colour photographs taken by the author, the talk reflects the human story as well as the sylvan one, where trees and people have lived and worked together for millennia.
Closer to home, Julian has discovered, measured and photographed some of the oldest trees in the local area – survivors of the ancient Forest of Selwood that once surrounded Frome – living links to our rich local history and ancestry, and will also discuss a project to revive the great forest.
The talk starts at 5pm on Saturday 9th July. Free places can be reserved at Hunting Raven Books on 01373 473111, or via the www.worldtreestory.co.uk
Signed copies of Julian’s books; ‘Britain’s Tree Story’ and ‘World Tree Story’ will be available.
