FROME Town FC recently announced the sad passing of former manager Steve D’arcy, who died from cancer.
Steve D’arcy was manager of Frome Town FC during their winning season in 1983, beating Plymouth Argyle Reserves to win the Western League Cup Final and also to take home the Somerset Premier Cup. This also saw Steve take home the newly-created ‘Manager of the Season’ award.
Frome Town FC said, “So sad today to hear of the passing of our former manager Steve D’Arcy. He presided over a very successful side in the early 1980s and has been battling cancer for some time – he still followed our results and kept in touch. A proper football man, RIP Steve.”
This post on their social media pages encouraged those who knew Steve to pass on their condolences and their memories of Steve’s time at Frome Town.
Geoff Morton-Norris wrote, “It is always so sad to hear that someone involved with the club has passed on.
“Did not have the pleasure of meeting Steve but my utmost respect to him on all his hard work for Frome Town.”
