THE date on which the TSB branch on Cheap Street is set to close has been extended until additional cash facilities have been provided in the town.
The bank is set to be the fifth bank in the town to shut after NatWest, Barclays, HSBC and Halifax all closed within the last year.
TSB was due to close on 19th September however, a spokesperson for the bank has said new regulations mean the branch must now remain open until the cash services recommended by LINK – a company which ensures that people can still access cash – are in place for residents.
Following the announcement of TSB’s closure earlier this year, there were renewed calls for Frome to have a banking hub, with local campaign group Prosper Frome and Frome Town Council lobbying on the matter.
However, the town was told it was not eligible for a full banking hub, where banking and post office services unite under one roof.
Instead, it was eligible for a banking deposit service but Frome Town Council has said that this service falls short of the community banking hub the town desperately needs.
The renewed date of TSB’s closure is yet to be announced.
