CROWDS flocked to Frome for the garden and wildlife-inspired latest Frome Independent Market, held on Sunday 7th June.
The internationally respected producer, cameraman and presenter of wildlife films, Simon King, was on hand to tell visitors about his charity, the Simon King Wildlife Project. His aim is to turn the tide against the loss of natural habitats and begin a movement to reclaim more land for the natural world.
As news of the Independent Market grows and interest spreads, visitors came from even further afield. As well as locals on foot and park and ride, visitors came on independently-arranged coach trips from south Wales and Weston-Super-Mare, to sample the array of diverse products on offer throughout the market.
Down by the library on the pop up village green, children were treated to the opportunity to create miniature gardens with Doodlebug Club and toast marshmallows with local forest school Hidden Woods’ temporary camp.
Visitors also enjoyed getting to grips with how to compost with the Compost Champions, take a blindfolded vegetable taste test challenge with Vallis Veg and get to know more about Incredible Edible Frome and the Community and Apothecary Gardens.
The fiercely contested miniature garden competition was judged by TV presenter Simon King and Cordelia from Vallis Veg, who after much deliberation declared Asha Wajsblum-Hayes, Jody Hughes and Jesse Morrissey winners.
The Frome Independent organisers said, “We are hugely grateful to all the organisations who took part in our garden-themed market which proved to be a huge success.
“It was always part of our vision for the market to have themed additions to keep attracting our local resident audience and increase repeat visitors, but we have also discovered that it allows us a fantastic opportunity to offer a platform to the many and varied community groups, organisations and businesses who do so much for Frome. They give us inspiration for themes and we offer them a platform to raise their profile and market their activities – it’s a win/win situation!”
