Members of Frome Twinning Association recently returned from a successful visit to our Twin Town in Poland, Rabka-Zdrój.
Frome Twinning Association explains, “Rabka-Zdrój is a mountain health resort in southern Poland. It is scenically located 70 km south of Kraków.
“All four Twin Towns – Frome, Rabka-Zdrój, Chateau-Gôntier (France) and Murrhardt (Germany) meet annually in one of our towns for a programme of discussions, exchanges and cultural and other activities. At these meetings official discussions take place between the town councils. Delegations from the four towns include adults and young people.
“This visit took place from 13th to 17th July. While we were there, we discussed a number of potential exchanges, for example work placements for young people, communication between young people from each town, and choir and sports team exchanges. During the weekend we enjoyed entertainment at the impressive open-air amphitheatre, exhibitions of sculpture and children’s work, a workshop on Polish singing and dancing, visits and walks in the local area and the chance to participate in Rabka-Zdrój’s summer festival.
“Delegates learn a great deal from experiencing the daily life and culture of a town in another country and always return to Frome with new ideas and new friendships.
“The next Twinning activities are a joint visit to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, and a visit by the Murrhardt Carnival Club to Frome in September for the Frome Carnival. There will also be the premiere of the Films4Europe film about their town made by the young people of all four towns. This will be held in the Merlin Theatre on Saturday 9th September.
