RESIDENTS are invited to take part in a Somerset Council consultation about housing plans for two areas in Frome – North Parade Car Park and Adderwell Road. The deadline is Friday 12th April and the council is keen to hear from as many local people as possible.
The formal consultation is reviewing and reconsidering housing sites for at least 505 houses in the Mendip area, following a High Court Order to make amendments to the Mendip Local Plan Part 2 (LPP2).
In Frome’s North Parade car park, a total of 18 social and affordable rental houses are planned. The application is for Agile Homes to develop a mixture of low-carbon two-storey houses and flats on a section of the North Parade car park which is a conservation area, leaving 20 car parking spaces for members of the public.
At a meeting held earlier this year, town councillors supported the plans, while recognising the problem of parking within the town. They agreed that there is a need for more affordable rental properties to help with the ‘housing crisis’ in the area.
Formal proposals for the development are currently being considered by planning officers.
The second development is from Persimmon Homes Wessex for 25 houses on the former Cuprinol factory site off Adderwell Road, at the eastern edge of the town.
This application was approved by Somerset Council last month and work is expected to start in the coming months.
In total, there are 777 houses that will be delivered across 11 parts of Somerset as part of the Mendip Local Plan part II.
