Sat. 28th Sept. Southern Counties South Frome 13 Grove 20
Frome RFC greeted unbeaten Grove RFC to ‘The Lane’ expecting a tough encounter on Saturday.
Frome started well and opened the scoring through a penalty from Man of the Match and Outside Centre, Darrell Thompson. However, Grove hit back immediately and after a last ditch tackle by Fullback Rob Sully, the visitors were able to create space on the opposite side for the winger to touch down in the corner.
Frome regained the lead shortly after, when Thompson slotted a second penalty from 40 metres out. There was a pause in play following an injury to Flanker Matt Smith who left the field on a stretcher; we’d like to wish him a healthy and speedy recovery.
Frome were able to stretch their lead further following a fantastic line out play, which saw Inside Centre Mike Rutt receive the ball at pace to break the defensive and step the covering defence to dot down under the posts, Thompson adding the extras.
Half Time: Frome RFC 13 – 5 Grove RFC
The second half was dominated by the visitors who used the wind and slight slope to their advantage, pinning Frome back in their own half and despite some heroic defence, the visitors scored 2 tries and a penalty to run out winners 20-13.
The Man of the Match award, sponsored by The Old Bath Arms, Frome went to Darrell Thompson.
