Frome’s Ryan Wheeler ended 2017 in style with another convincing victory over Hereford’s Dean Evans.
Fighting out of the Bristol Boxing Gym and having come back from a training camp in Fuerteventura, where Ryan trained alongside world champion Lee Selby, Ryan made it 5 wins from 5 in 2017, taking his undefeated professional record to 11-1-0.
Ahead of this fight the “Somerset Stallion” had three contenders withdraw taking a last minute call up from Evans, who, having previously been defeated by Wheeler back in 2015, had recently won with his proven knockout power in the super featherweight division. Wheeler won the fight, outscoring Evans in five of the six-round bouts, proving far too quick for Evans who did his best to disrupt Wheeler’s rhythm with boxing in close.
Questions are now mounting around what happens next for the Frome southpaw who is now on the brink of challenging for a southern area or British master title. Ryan Wheeler, who aims to take a few weeks off during the festive period said, “2017 has been a great year and I am so proud to represent the town of Frome and the immense support that comes with it.
“Next year we are looking at a return to the Cheese and Grain in March where I hope to be fighting for a title in front of a strong home crowd; my focus remains to train hard and keep learning from the best”
Ryan went on to thank his main sponsors Pilling Equipment, Bath Arms, Crew Barbers, Rodden Road Cars, Quick Print MSN and Postlebury Breakdown.
