THE café in Victoria Park re-opened recently and has become a popular spot for park-goers to grab a bite to eat and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the park.
The cafe is now looking to expand its seating capacity with a new shelter which will provide additional seating options and a base for community programmes.
Some funding has been secured to run programmes that support young people in the park. The café team are currently working with a number of other community groups to develop a range of activities and opportunities for young people to engage with the community and develop new skills this summer.
“The newly opened Victoria Park community cafe has been well-received by the public and park users and is flourishing in Victoria Park,” said Dr Sam Evans, managing director of Cultivating Community, the community interest company that runs the café.
“The success and growth of the Victoria Park Cafe could not have been possible without the support and input of various stakeholders. Frome Town Council played a pivotal role in supporting the café’s establishment. The council provided the necessary resources to improve the infrastructure of the building, supported the building of a shelter and has continued to support the café’s growth and development with initiatives like a loose parts play trolley.”
In addition to Frome Town Council, the Victoria Park Cafe has also received funding from the National Lottery, Somerset Community Foundation, The Frome Lottery and a private donor. These contributions have been crucial in enabling the café to get up and running, start to develop programmes, and make necessary improvements to its facilities.
Sam said, “Volunteers have also played an essential role in the Victoria Park Cafe’s success. They have worked tirelessly to provide excellent service to customers and to support the café’s aim to be open consistent hours, seven days a week. The café’s volunteer programme has been a huge success, and the team is always on the lookout for more individuals who are passionate about their community, and making a positive impact.
“Overall, the Victoria Park Cafe is a testament to the power of community collaboration and partnership. Through the support of Frome Town Council, the National Lottery, the Somerset Community Foundation, volunteers, and park users, the café has become a thriving community hub that serves as a model for others to follow.
“The Victoria Park Cafe team is excited about the café’s growth and success and looks forward to continuing to serve the community with delicious coffee and quality service.”
