Residents at a Frome care home are really excited with their new piece of activities equipment.
Rowden House is now home to a virtual reality (VR) headset for the residents to use as they wish.
Freda, a resident at the home, was really enthusiastic and volunteered to be the first to have a go. Keen to get away from the recent cold and wet weather, Freda headed for the sunshine and used the VR headset to travel to Croatia and Madrid. She was amazed at the experience and couldn’t believe how realistic it was. After her experience, Freda was full of stories for the others, and shared just how blue the sea was.
The use of VR comes as part of Somerset Care’s investment into the use of technology in care. The headset was set up with assistance from Liz, Somerset Care’s care technologist.
Speaking about the experience, manager Karen Reeves said, “We’re really excited to have a VR headset and can’t wait for all the residents to try it out.
“It was amazing to see how much Freda’s face lit up when she shared her experience with the others. With the use of technology we’re pleased to be able to take armchair travel to the next level.”
