FROME resident, Susannah Walker, has set up a donation page in order to keep the food bank stocked during the current coronavirus outbreak.
The page has already reached over £1,000, currently at £1,365, with Susannah now making daily trips to the supermarkets to collect food items for those who are vulnerable or self-isolating.
Susannah said, “The Fair Frome food bank already does incredible work helping those in most need. But the coronavirus epidemic will be a massive challenge for them, on a whole new scale.
“I’m not worried about the virus for myself, in fact I feel very lucky because I work from home any way. I’ve volunteered for the food bank before, and was reading reports that, nationally, donations were down. I could also see that the numbers of people needing help was going to rise massively as people self-isolate and those on zero hours contracts had no work.
“So I thought I would make it easier to donate. I’ve been blown away by the response, but this campaign is very much going to be a long haul and so I’ll be collecting money and delivering food for the next few months, I should think.
“Every time we get to £100 I ask the foodbank what they need most and go and get it. If things get really bad, I will organise a delivery. We will all keep doing this over and over again until things get better.
“The job is getting more difficult because supermarkets are limiting how much we can buy, but we will go out every day if necessary! But if you’re still worried, please do take some food to the Fair Frome collection points in Sainsbury’s, Asda, Frome Wholefoods and Barnardo’s instead.
“Frome is a great community. Let’s channel this and do our best to see all our town through the next few months.”
