AT Purple Elephant, Frome’s home-grown family and child charity, the team are always keen to hear from volunteers, from any backgrounds and of all ages. The charity provides year-round support for disadvantaged families, as well as super-fun events including the toy library and the Children’s Festival.
A spokesperson said, “As our service provision is so diverse it means we can offer a wealth of opportunities, some very specialised, some more general, some ongoing for our year-round work, but some for just one-off events, including young volunteers too, not just those with work-experience.
“We are currently looking for a treasurer, to join our board of trustees, someone who shares our vision and values and it super-hot at the finance side of things! We are also seeking two or three more befriending volunteers. Befriending is a very specific role which, due to the nature of the work engaging one-to-one with children with individually identified needs, is usually fulfilled by those who have previous experience with children in social care or education. We will support with DBS and safeguarding training.
“Now that we have become registered as a charity and are growing, this is a great time to join us as we hit 2023 at speed. Our February half-term creative holiday activities, for referred families, are all already planned and we are making contact now with young people to join us a part of the team, planning for this summer’s Children’s Festival already.
“We’d love someone to do some community fundraising. If you have experience in fundraising and are full of great ideas, then we need you!
“As we start an exciting new period, we welcome someone to bring their great ideas to all of Purple Elephant’s offerings and we will, of course, be happy to join you to support you in fulfilling any ideas you might have to garner the great people of Frome and area to join together in events to make money to the keep our Purple family up and running.
“All these roles above need solid commitment but if you are keen but with less time, we also appreciate the input of ad hoc helpers at our Children’s Festival and other or occasional projects and family fun holiday events. We also welcome applications from young people who are considering volunteering as part of their education, such as Duke of Edinburgh and whilst these opportunities are limited in number, we aim to offer mentoring support in return to young volunteers, in the community and caring spirit of all things Purple Elephant based.”
