More than £1,400 was raised at the ‘Walk for Wessex’ organised by Wessex Counselling Service on Sunday 7th September.
This money will enable people in need of counselling on very low incomes to receive free professional counselling.
The walk was supported by donations from many local businesses and more than 30 walkers completed the six mile circular trek through the footpaths around Mells and returned to Mells Tithe Barn for the raffle and buffet.
Mel Heap, senior counsellor for Wessex Counselling Service, who led and organised the walk said, “I first thought of doing this six months ago, when another application for a grant was unsuccessful due to their shortage of funds.
“It became clear that some of the people most in need of help were not able to access free professional counselling without very long waiting times, during which things can get a lot worse. I decided to do something about it.
“This just shows what can be done, and I am grateful to all those who made it possible.”
