Cancer counselling charity We Hear You (WHY) is hosting a conference in Frome Town Hall on Saturday 19th October, exploring the importance of emotional support for people affected by cancer or a life threatening condition.
The conference forms part of WHY’s 25th anniversary celebrations and is a both retrospective and a look ahead to the future of the charity.
Director Melissa Hillier says, “Our founder, Jill Miller, installed an additional phoneline at her home in 1994 to provide support to women affected by breast cancer, following her own cancer journey. It was immediately evident how important the service was, and by the time Jill retired in 2008, the charity had grown and expanded its remit to support anyone affected directly or indirectly by cancer or a life threatening condition.
“In 2018, we provided more than 4,300 counselling sessions across 19 locations to children and adults aged four to 84.
“This conference is a celebration of Jill’s achievement and the ongoing work of the charity, as well as a look ahead at the next 25 years of We Hear You. We’re delighted to welcome speakers from UWE and the University of Exeter, among others, to share their research and engage in discussion with local healthcare providers and our colleagues in cancer care.”
The We Hear You conference takes place on Saturday 19th October in Frome Town Hall from 10am to 4pm. Tickets are £40 and include lunch, with concessions available for £10. CPD points are available on request. Booking is via www.wehearyou.org.uk/fundraising/conference-2019/.
