FROME’S Westway Cinema is ready and raring to go for its reopening next month.
In line with the government roadmap out of lockdown, the independent cinema is planning to reopen on 17th May with films for all the family.
Since the beginning of the pandemic last year, the cinema has endured multiple forced closures, the delayed release of a number of blockbuster films, and social distancing restrictions that have limited audiences to a third of the cinema’s capacity.
But despite the rollercoaster year of setbacks, Westway Cinema owners, Pat and Beryl Scott, remain positive and are excited to welcome customers back.
“We can’t wait to reopen,” said Beryl speaking to Frome Times. “We want to get at it and get started! We are in the process of giving the cinema another clean – and getting it all sorted so everything is in place. We are raring to go and are looking forward to seeing all our customers and welcoming them back again.”
The cinema will reopen with screenings of Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, and an array of other films. Beryl is also hopeful to secure Hollywood blockbuster, Godzilla vs. Kong.
About the impact of the third lockdown on the cinema, Beryl said, “It’s been dreadful – we’ve had all the money to pay out and nothing coming in. So if we can at least get open and get some money coming in – hopefully enough to pay the staff – that will be something.
“It’s good to see life returning to the town centre – it felt like a ghost town in lockdown – but it’s good to see people coming and going and life coming back again.”
