Royal Selwood Lodge has donated two new wheelchairs to Frome Medical Practice, after hearing that the practice’s wheelchairs for patients often come under heavy demand at busy times.
Karen Creffield, practice manager said, “This is a fantastic donation. There are peak times when there are simply not enough wheelchairs available, so this gift will immediately go towards helping patients and their attendant families and carers, who need wheelchair assistance.
“We have always made every effort to make visiting the practice here as welcoming an experience as possible. The generosity of the Lodge means that for those with walking difficulties, visits here should also now be substantially easier. A huge ‘thank you’ is owed!”
The Royal Selwood Lodge is known to many locally as ‘the Buffaloes’. They meet at the RAOB Club in the High Street. The full name of the lodge is The Royal Selwood Lodge, Frome and Warminster Province, Grand Lodge of England, the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes.
The Lodge was founded in Frome on 2nd September 1896 at what was then the Bull Hotel (now Costa Coffee). As a philanthropic and fraternal order, the Lodge has made many donations to local causes and charities over the years including St John Ambulance, PAC, Frome Town Youth Band, The Memorial Theatre, Critchill Court Care Home, British Lung Foundation, RICE (Research Institute for the Care of Older People), The Stroke Association, Pre-Eclampsia and Endometriosis UK.
John McLarnon ROH (Roll of Honour) was the main organiser of the wheelchair donation for the benefit of the patients at the Frome Medical Practice.
“We are delighted to have been able to make this donation,” he said. “We all hope and trust that as a Lodge we can continue giving to many more good causes for another 120 years.”
