This year, Frome Town Council has introduced a one-off grant payment of up to £10,000 for a local community group. The decision on how this money is spent and who will be the successful recipient of the funding will be decided by people who live in Frome. Frome Town Council welcomes applications for projects which cover or are working towards helping Frome to become a sustainable, vibrant and participatory community. Chairman of the external affairs committee, cllr Peter Macfadyen said, “The People’s, or Participatory grant represents a great opportunity for any community group in Frome to deliver a key project to benefit the town. “The closing date for the participatory grant is Tuesday 1st May, which is fast approaching. So if you have a project that you think is worth the support of the residents of Frome, then don’t miss the deadline and get your application in as soon as possible. “This year the new requirement is for the grant applicants to persuade the people of Frome to support their application. We want to put more power in the hands of the people – this is a trial, let’s see how it works!” A summary of all the participatory grant applications received will be circulated in the town council’s newsletter in June, together with a returnable voting slip so residents can choose which project they consider to be the most worthy cause. How the chosen groups gain support will be up to them! Please note that funding is still available for smaller grants up to £5,000 and applications are still ongoing.
