Sunday, 16th October saw a number of Frome Running Club athletes leave our shores for a major Dutch race.
The Amsterdam Half Marathon wends its way through the city centre, taking runners past many tourist landmarks including the Olympic Stadium, the Rijksmuseum and the Vondelpark.
A total of eleven Frome runners made the trip to the Dutch capital. Lee Stone was the first club athlete to cross the line, posting a personal best time of 01:23:58. He was followed by Peter Larman at 01:27:55 and Kathryn Clarke at 01:46:29. Hot on their heels was Ade Marchment at 01:46:30 and Victoria Penman at 01:47:20. Laura Ryan was next past the line at 02:03:47 followed by Jo Riley at 02:09:53 and Sarah Perrett at 02:10:14. Sara Elliott completed the course in a time of 02:16:18, crossing the line with Fiona Norris, who also recorded a time of 02:16:18. They were followed shortly after by Dave Perrett at 02:17:51. Nicola Player took part in the Amsterdam 8 kilometre race on the same day, completing the course in 0:56:53.
Also on Sunday 16th, more club runners were lining up for another challenge closer to home: The Mendip outdoor pursuit 10K. This challenging hilly course takes in the Mendips Hills, the Butcombe Trail and Sandford Quarry, following public footpaths, tracks and muddy trails as well as woodland and open countryside. Martin Taylor (VM50) was the first Frome club runner to finish, posting a time of 1:07:57, which earned him third place in category. He was followed by Fleur Rush (VF40) whose time of 1:14:02 translated into third in category. Peter Lee (VM70) completed the course in 1:25:42.6, his impressive time earning him first in category. Rich Corp (VM40) crossed the line in 1:41:35, followed by Emma Flexon (VF40) in 1:41:36.
