Some very exciting developments and early season results as Frome Tri Club is emerging from a varied and intensive winter training programme.
Experienced coaches, headed by Paul Ryman have delivered some strong sessions covering all aspects of triathlon. Each week three swims, one run, one strength and condition, a spin and occasional circuit cycle sessions have supported the training needs for participants of all abilities, from complete novice to GB athletes.
The team has also been strengthened by the addition of some recently qualified triathlon coaches. The willingness of people to step up and give up their time to undertake the coach training is testament to the enthusiasm and inclusive approach within the club.
Julie Chilvers who is already a very experienced ASA Swim Coach has now qualified as a British Triathlon Level One Coach (pictured below left) Julie teaches the very successful and popular back to basics swimming lessons but she will now be able to deliver across the run and bike aspects of the sport.
Julie not only coaches but participates in the sport as well; she is currently undertaking training in preparation for an Iron-Man race this year, an event not for the faint hearted.
Natalie George has been a member of the club after joining with no previous Triathlon experience. She has progressed through the distances to achieve her first Iron-Man in Zurich last year. Natalie is a popular member of the club; she is very generous in sharing her experience and knowledge and this has now been consolidated with her also gaining her Level One Coaching Certificate; this is another great asset to the club.
The recent Longleat 10k proved to be popular with members of the club. The event, previously postponed due to icy conditions in February was still very challenging. Gale force winds and a revised route with an extra hill did not deter the Frome Tri Club contingent. Several PBs were achieved by a range of athletes of all levels and ages, all buoyed along by team camaraderie and many club supporters.
The Penny family certainly made a mark on the day with Keith winning his age group category and his sister Chrissy going on to win hers (pictured below)
Frome Tri Club will soon be switching to its summer training programme as the main Triathlon season gets underway. Not only will members be travelling far and wide to participate in events, they will also be looking forward to their own very popular Triathlon on 18th August 2019.
The club also offers a FREE two week trial where you are very welcome to meet other members and take part in the training sessions. A very popular swimming session for beginners is also available to non members. For further information about training, membership or the Frome Triathlon, please visit frometriclub.co.uk
