COVENTRY Building Society in Frome has been collecting donations of hats, scarves and gloves for YMCA to give to the homeless this winter.
The staff in Frome wanted to help the homeless and thought it would be a good idea to collect gloves, hats and scarves after Christmas as a way of making a donation. They also asked their customers and members of staff from the surrounding branches if they would like to bring in their unwanted items.
Anne Dimery, branch manager in Frome said, “The response was amazing, we collected 33 pairs of gloves, 26 hats and 73 scarves, some of which have been knitted by our customers. All items have now been donated to the Frome YMCA, who will then distribute them to homeless people.
“I am delighted and humbled by the response from our staff and customers. Our customers really entered into the spirit and were so pleased to be able to help.
“We will continue to support the homeless every year and hope to collect more scarves, hats and gloves, coats and sleeping bags at the end of this year. Anyone who wants to bring in their unwanted items, we will happily deliver to the YMCA throughout the year.”
