LOCAL historian Lisa Kenwright, who was due to host the Women of Frome walk as part of this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations, will be leading the rescheduled walk on Wednesday 10th May from 11am to 12:30pm.
The Women of Frome is a walk based on the 2022 Frome Museum exhibition of the same name that highlighted the lives of women from the town that were pioneers or excelled within their field.
Frome Town councillor Carla Collenette says, “One of the ways we can increase inclusivity is to bring unheard stories to the fore and it’s great that we can work with Frome Museum to uncover these fascinating lives and share with the community.”
Lisa has created a special edition of the walk that focuses on women of Frome known for their role in social reform. From educational reformer Clara Grant to Emma Sheppard and her work with so-called fallen women at the workhouse, the walk will visit sites where they worked and lived, putting their lives into historical context on the way.
The walk will commence outside the Cheese and Grain and finish at Ecos Court off Weymouth Road, a walk of around 2.5 km or 1.5 miles including some steep slopes. Tickets are £7.30 (including fees) and can be purchased here: https://bit.ly/3NzTLlN
