THIS year’s World Day of Prayer service takes place on Friday 3rd March.
In Frome, the service will take place at 2.30pm in Christ Church, Frome on Christchurch Street West, and people are encouraged to bring or share lunch from 1.30pm.
Organiser Jean Fraser said, “The World Day of Prayer is an international interchurch organisation which enables us to hear the thoughts of people from all parts of the world: their hopes, concerns and prayers.
“Frome Churches are taking part and this year we will be celebrating Taiwan with the theme, ‘I have heard about your faith.’
“The people of Taiwan are sending us blessings with the service they have prepared for the World Day of Prayer 2023.
“Taiwan is an island rich in natural resources and culturally diverse. The people of Taiwan share the many issues faced geographically, politically and socially and also their hopes for the future. We can join with them and give thanks for their beautiful island and for the people of Taiwan themselves and in doing so, also encourage one another in our own faith.
“The preparation for the day is vast. And the same service, which has happened for many years, is celebrated in over 120 countries. It originally started in 1887 in America and Canada as a simple service of praise and thanksgiving and nowadays begins in Samoa and then the same service, in native languages, travels throughout the world, through Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas before finishing in Samoa some 38 hours later involving thousands of people.”
