Whilst many people were outside enjoying the sunshine over Easter, Explorer Scouts from Frome, who have been selected to represent Somerset at the World Scout Jamboree this July in America were busy bag packing for supermarket customers.
They helped customers in M&S Frome on the Thursday, Radco in Radstock on Good Friday and Tesco, Shepton Mallet on Easter Saturday to raise funds for their adventure.
The stores’ customers were really in the Easter spirit when it came to donations, with a total raised over the three days of over £1,600!
In addition, the draw took place for the WSJ Unit 77 Easter raffle with the top prize of a 2-night retreat in a cosy cottage in Devon, worth over £200, won by Mr M Verway, day passes to Center Parcs, Longleat, won by Mr N Whitehead and a photograph of members of Coronation Street signed by some of the cast won by Mrs L Squire. Mr J Price, Mr K Travis and Mrs A Mara won other prizes, kindly donated by Whitstone’s Fish and Chips, Shepton Mallet, The Memorial Theatre and Asda.
All of the money will go to the WSJ Explorer Scouts, who must raise all of the money for the Jamboree and training camps with some of these funds going towards supporting Scouts from less privileged countries who, otherwise, would not be able to participate in this amazing, once -in-a-lifetime Scouting experience.
