THE Silk Mill in Frome has played host to Berkley First School’s premiere art gallery!
Throughout their last term, the whole school has taken part in a big project entitled ‘Take One Picture.’ Using Rousseau’s famous ‘Surprised!’ as a stimulus, the children immersed themselves in creative learning throughout the school. This involved parents and artists coming in to work with the children in order to produce a final piece of artwork.
Art coordinator Rebecca Hardwick says, “I wanted the children of Berkley to have an opportunity to showcase their creative talents and what better way to do this than through their very own art gallery featuring beautiful art work from across the whole school.
“The work was framed for parents to view and buy in a private gallery afternoon. We were so lucky to be able to showcase the children’s artwork in such a prestigious venue as The Silk Mill and as a school we are incredibly grateful to Kate Moore for allowing us to use her beautiful building to celebrate art at Berkley.
“I am incredibly proud of all the staff and students for the huge amount of work they have put into this project and the results they have achieved. “
The school add, “All staff came together to set up and run the gallery following Covid-19 regulations. The children were permitted to show their parents around the gallery in a special timed slot and afterwards were treated to a cream tea on the terrace, courtesy of our FBS and Asda – a huge thank you for providing our scones and Lidl for providing refreshments and jam.
“The result was a resounding success with comments such as ‘What beautiful artwork, thank you so much to all of Berkley Staff for setting up such a wonderful event!’. Much to our delight, we even had a visit from the Deputy Mayor of Frome, Sara Butler. We hope to host many future art events such as this one- watch out world, Berkley is coming!”
