FROME College students Izzy Book and Ben Eley will be cycling 300 miles from London to Paris in July on a tandem bike to raise money for two charities.
The two 17-year olds have set themselves a fundraising target of £4,000, to be split between skin cancer charity Melanoma UK and Burning Nights, a charity that raises awareness of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CPRS). So far they have raised over £1,600.
Izzy told Frome Times, “Melanoma UK was chosen in memory of Ben’s granddad, who passed away from skin cancer on Ben’s 4th birthday. Burning Nights was chosen after I was diagnosed with chronic pain syndrome and CRPS in my back and legs earlier this year.”
To help raise money the couple are hosting a number of fundraising events. Previous events include a quiz night and raffle. Izzy said, “We are holding a clothes swap on Friday 8th March at 7.30pm in the Refectory BA11 1HR.
“We are looking for donations of men’s, women’s and kids’ clothing, which we can sell on the evening – with all money made going towards our charity event.”
