AN exhibition of historic and vintage photographs of Tibet and the Himalayas has gone on display at The Good Heart café in conjunction with One A Photography and Tibetan Memories.
More than 20 images of the Tibetan people, landscapes and Buddhist rituals, along with its neighbouring countries of India, Nepal and Bhutan, are being showcased.
Visitors will also be able to sample plant-based dishes provided by resident Tibetan chef, Namdi, and his catering company Tibetan Memories, based at the cafe.
He said, “I am delighted to see these images of my homeland, my people and my faith adorning the walls of my café.”
Owner of One A Photography, Lockhart Murdoch, is a regular customer at The Good Heart, and has collected historic images of Tibet and its neighbours for many years.
He offered his pictures to be exhibited at the café, to bring a Tibetan influence to the ambience.
He said, “The people of the Himalayas, their mystical Buddhist beliefs and rituals have fascinated western visitors for more than 150 years.
“Tibet and its neighbouring countries remained relatively isolated due to their inaccessibility; as a result, their culture and traditions have been preserved to this day.
“The images on display include places such as Lhasa and the Potala Palace – the official residence of The Dalai Lama before he went into exile.”
The photographs will be available for sale through the exhibition which ends on 5th August.
