FROME Community Education is all set to launch their summer term with courses starting from Monday 25th April.
They have extended their summer programme to include even more art courses.
Programme manager for Frome CommEd, Pia McGee, explains, “Last term, we introduced four new art tutors to Frome Community Education. We hoped their classes would prove popular – in fact, almost all of them sold out!
“As a result, this term, we have added ‘Imperfect Painting with Acrylics’ with new tutor Julia Blaker, not one but two different collage courses with Jessica Wilker, a one-day workshop in ‘Line and Wash’ with Catherine Beale, and we are particularly excited to offer both a daytime and evening class in ‘Mixed Media’ with local Frome artist Amy Yates.
“This is in addition to our existing courses in ‘Drawing and Painting’, ‘Printmaking without a Press’, ‘Linocuts and Mosaics’. We will also be using a new venue for some of our art courses – the Frome Art School at the Silk Mill.”
Other new courses for the summer term include a one-day walk and talk workshop (and an extended weekly course) on ‘Celebrated Women of Frome’, launched to coincide with the Frome Museum exhibition of the same name. Local historian David Lassman will introduce Frome’s only female MP, two internationally known poets and a pioneer in photography whose images shocked the world!
Vedic Chanting with Elaine Ewens makes a welcome return to the classroom, and internationally acclaimed ecopoet Helen Moore joins Frome CommEd to introduce ‘Wild Ways to Writing’.
If you are looking to get ‘holiday ready’ then professional photographer, James Bartholomew, has a range of one-day workshops and more extensive courses in ‘Digital Photography and Using Your Camera Phone’, which promise to transform your everyday and holiday snaps.
And, if you wish to brush up on your Italian, Spanish or German, then there are courses for all abilities. If you want to discuss which class might be most appropriate for you, just contact Frome CommEd who will put you in touch with the class tutor.
With all of these, in addition to their ‘regular’ courses in ‘Health and Wellbeing’, ‘Creative Writing’, ‘Photography and Rambling’ and more, there is something for everyone.
