CRITCHILL School has won £50,000 in a competition which, added to other funding, gives a total of £125,000 to spend on a new playground for the school’s pupils, who have complex and severe learning needs.
The school won £50,000 in the Kompan playground competition, where the school had to submit a video explaining how a new playground could benefit them.
This amount has been match funded by the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership Trust and the school has itself raised funds of £25,000.
Critchill School, located on Nunney Road, provides education for approximately 66 pupils from the age of 4 to 19 years.
Sophie Addison, acting headteacher at Critchill School said, “The pupils are obviously thrilled and worked really hard to complete their engaging and creative video to show potential funders their ideas. They took part in external visits in order to make informed decisions about what they would like in their new playground.
“The new playground will be very inclusive for the pupils with two sections. One section will be a great place for the children to play and the other, which will feature gym equipment, will be great for the older pupils.
“It will not only be an integral part to the children’s play time but also their sports and PE curriculum.
“The pupils have been so committed to this project and it’s lovely that they have been rewarded with the funding. We are also very lucky that our trust, the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership have agreed to match fund the funding we won from Kompan, as well as the £25,000 we raised through fundraising. We here at Critchill School are hoping the project gets under way as soon as possible!”
