Frome’s Western Counties Senior Development Champion and national semi-finalist, Jordan Giles, returned to the ring at Kingsley School in Bideford, Devon, where he gained a points decision over experienced Lewis Everson of the Intense ABC, Plymouth.
Frome Amateur Boxing Club report, “Also in action recently was Josh Doyle , having his first contest at Paulton Rovers Football Club and coming away with a very good points win over Harvey Cooper of Wells ABC in a terrific bout that closed the show.
“Next time out, Josh was at The Exchange, Sturminster Newton, Dorset. This time his opponent was Nathan Summers from Truro ABC, Cornwall. Josh secured a convincing and well-controlled unanimous win over his tall rival.
“On the same show, Jude Goodchild had his first contest and did really well before losing a close-points decision to the local boy, Robin Sleep. Jude can hold his head high, climbing into that ring with an away crowd cheering your opponent’s every move. Jude gave a great account of himself and made the coaches and Frome Club proud, well done Jude . He went to the show expecting to have a skills contest but when offered the bout, Jude excepted the challenge. This was to follow on from a skills bout that Jude had in Whitchurch, Bristol, when he showed great skills and a solid defence.
“Young Kyle Sherred (only 11) has followed his brother Levi into the ring and boxed Owen Tate (Blue Flames ABC) in a skills contest at a show in Taunton. A skills contest is one where there is no decision and the boxers take part to get them used to what it would be like in a real contest and is over three x 1 minute rounds . It is the first gradual step into amateur boxing.
“The Frome Amateur Boxing Club are bringing amateur boxing back to Frome when they will be holding a tournament featuring all the local boxers at the Frome Football Club on Friday 10th May.”
